It needs an iPhone with a TrueDepth front camera (iPhone X or newer) and camera permission. Check Settings › Nod Chef › Camera.
Prop the phone where it can see your face and stand the way you actually cook. Nod Chef measures every movement from the position you are resting in, and it follows you: step away for the eggs, come back standing half a step to the left, and within a couple of seconds it is measuring from wherever you now are. There is nothing to press and nothing to hold still for.
Tap zones and buttons always work as a fallback.
Settings › Head tracking has a sensitivity slider, and it explains itself there. Drag it toward the hare if the app misses you, toward the tortoise if it fires when you did not mean it.
The same section lets you choose the gesture: Turn (a small turn of the head right for the next step, left to go back) or Nod (a quick dip of the chin forward, a lift to go back).

The catalog — hundreds of recipes written and tested for this app, browsable by meal, by cuisine, or by what is popular this week. Tap Save on any of them and it is yours to cook.
Your own — choose Write or paste and type a recipe in, or paste one you copied. Write it however you like, one step per line, and Nod Chef turns it into step cards. Grandma's handwritten recipe, something dictated over the phone, or a dish you know by heart all go in the same way.
Tell Nod Chef what is in your kitchen and it answers with what those things make. Salt, oil, pepper and water are assumed, so you do not have to list them.
Cook now is everything you can make already. Almost is what you could make after buying one or two more things, and it names them.
Yes. Open the recipe and use the photo button in the top corner to take one, choose one from your library, or remove the one that is there. Catalog recipes arrive with a photograph already. Photos are resized on your device before they are saved, and camera information such as location is stripped.
Yes. Open it and tap the pencil in the top corner. Title, ingredients, steps, order — all of it, at any time.
Every import lands in an editable list before it is saved — edit, reorder, delete, or add steps by hand.
Not in this version. Recipes are stored on the device where you saved them.
Nod Chef is free for your first five saved recipes. After that, a single one-time purchase unlocks unlimited recipes and the Pro recipes in the catalog. It is not a subscription. If you reinstall or get a new device, use Restore on the unlock screen.
No. Head tracking processes the camera live on your device to read head angle. Nothing is recorded, nothing is uploaded, and no image leaves your device. You can switch head tracking off and use taps.
On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, Nod Chef can use Apple's on-device model to tidy a messy recipe into cleaner steps and give the dish a name. It runs entirely on your iPhone.
It supports only the languages Apple Intelligence supports — Ukrainian and Russian are not among them, so recipes in those languages are read by Nod Chef's own parser instead. Everything works without it.
Anonymous crash reports and counts of which features get used — nothing else, and you can switch it off in Settings › Diagnostics. Your recipes, your photographs and the camera feed never leave your device, whether that switch is on or off. See the Privacy Policy.
